Description

The Civil War in the United States often focuses on the troops and soldiers from the East coast states. But what about the men that served from a state other than New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Virginia? Michigan sent its fair share of men and sacrificed as much as other states in the Union. The stories of those soldiers and their efforts to preserve liberty and union in the United States deserve to be heard and remembered. Future generations need to appreciate and learn from their sacrifices. These men fought for their country in a terrible and destructive war, and helped to preserve the Union of the states. They should be remembered and honored equally with other soldiers in the Civil War. Michigan troops changed the outcome of the Civil War through their determination and fighting spirit, and the critical role they played in capturing vital military installations.
