Abstract
Clinical experience for nurse practitioner (NP) students is essential to ensure competency in their education and professional career. Successful clinical experience prepares NP students for their future careers as they transition to provider roles. However, providing consistent orientation during the first days of clinical rotation can be challenging to clinical sites. This project assessed a clinic specific guidebook designed to standardize orientation and support NP students. A quasi-experimental pre/post design, using a guidebook, with six matched participants showed improved self reported preparedness. Additionally, positive feedback was received from students and the preceptor, who integrated the guidebook into orientation. Limitations included a small sample size, single site, and self report bias. The guidebook was found to be feasible and useful at the clinical site.
