Abstract
This study was intended to significantly contribute to the body of research focused on biophilic design within the healthcare setting while expanding the application to the diagnostic imaging setting. This study’s purpose was to improve the mammography experience through the implementation of biophilic design for the enhancement of the patient experience, while successfully reducing negative perceptions during mammography procedures. The intervention of biophilic design has been shown to positively impact relaxation, wellness, and health through the reduction of stress. A randomized controlled trial with utilization of a quantitative design was utilized for the collection of data on the patient experience. The Multiphasic Optimization Strategy was utilized to test biophilic design intervention including assessment of the impact on the patient experience. Data was collected with the use of Microsoft Forms online platform and analyzed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, from men and women aged 40-74 receiving mammography services within the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center Mammography Department.
