Abstract

At the Jerry Falwell Library, we use Camtasia for recording videos that show students how to use online databases and teach research skills. While this tool can help students learn how to navigate databases from anywhere at anytime, Camtasia can also be challenging to use, especially for those who have no experience with the technology. Files sometimes do not save, background noise from mouse clicks or typing can be distracting, or screens can freeze or have unwanted pop-ups mid recording. These are only some of the issues I have encountered, and each can ruin a recording. Based on my experiences with this software, I have shared some tips and techniques I wish I had known before making and publishing my first recording. Overall, this poster will inform professionals working with Camtasia or similar recording software of best practices for creating video content that meets the needs of online students.
