JLG is a peer-reviewed journal publishing two issues per year. Please follow the guidelines below when submitting:

Who Can Submit?

Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in Journal of Law and Government provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer).

Submission Guidelines

  1. Submitted works can be conceptual, qualitative, quantitative, or theoretical research on any political or policy topic that contains a thoughtful exposition of and engagement with the Christian Reformed (and related) traditions. Biblical integration is key to a successful manuscript.
  2. JLG uses double-blind peer review. All author identification and all references that would identify an author’s own publications must be removed from the article document. Upon initial receipt, the manuscript is reviewed by one or more editors to ensure it contains all required elements and is formatted correctly. The manuscript is then sent out for external review by at least two qualified scholars in the field. Authors’ identities are hidden from reviewers, and the reviewers’ identities are hidden from authors. The editor considers the manuscript and the reviewers’ comments before making a final decision either to accept, accept with revision, or to reject a manuscript. Some manuscripts may require more than one round of revision.
  3. A Title page should be submitted separately from the article. Title page should contain the article title, author(s) name(s), affiliation(s) and contact information (including address, postal code, email address, and phone number).
  4. By submitting your manuscript to the journal, it is understood that it is an original manuscript, is an unpublished work, and is not under consideration elsewhere. This should be stated in the cover letter accompanying the manuscript. Plagiarism, including duplicate publication of the author’s own work, in whole or in part, without proper citation is not tolerated by the journal. The cover letter should also state that all authors have read and approved the submission of the manuscript. Include the name and contact information for any individuals who are qualified to review the manuscript, or names of any individuals who may not be able to provide an unbiased review.
  5. Book Reviews are welcomed, but please contact Kahlib Fischer ahead of time to ensure the book in question isn’t already being reviewed. Generally, books reviews should be 2500-3000 words. Reviewers are encouraged to solicit a response from the author of the book as well.

Formatting Requirements

  1. Manuscripts should be in Word file format, double spaced, with 1” margins on each side.
  2. All pages should be numbered.
  3. Length should be between 6,500 and 8,500 words including text, footnotes, and bibliographic references. Please include an abstract of no more than 150 words.
  4. Manuscripts should conform to the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th rev. ed. Please use footnotes rather than endnotes. All submissions are subject to editing and copyediting. References not cited in the text should not appear in the reference list.
  5. Ensure that the use of abbreviations is clear, and each one is defined in the text at its first mention only.
  6. All tables should be on separate pages and accompanied by a table title and table footnotes where necessary. The tables should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals. Units in which results are expressed should be given in parentheses at the top of each column and not repeated in each line of the table. Avoid overcrowding the tables and the excessive use of words. Please be certain that the data given in tables are correct. Please send all figures as high-resolution images.
