Abstract

This article examined virtual workplace employees and employee engagement challenges and solutions. Employees who work remotely often feel disconnected from coworkers, organizational missions, and have a feeling of emotional isolation. This article examined the problems organizations face when not prioritizing virtual socialization for remote workers, leading to employee turnover, disengagement, and loneliness. The systematic review consisted of conducting a review within the Liberty University Jerry Falwell Library, encompassing empirical studies sourced from ProQuest, EBSCO, Emerald, and Gale databases. Studies published in peer reviewed journals, and the BibleGateway online between 2021 and 2026. A total of 33 journals were synthesized to identify findings listed by attributes and deficiencies. The authors identified employee engagement as an important retention strategy, and digital communication is an effective tool, there still needs to be specific planning and mindfulness to allow employees to engage with one another to build and retain positive relationships. This article can serve as an important source of information for identifying common themes and solutions for virtual workplace employees and elevating employee engagement for future research.
