Abstract
This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences of young adult Christian Hispanic men residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, who struggle with pornography use. Chapter One introduced the problem, purpose, significance, and research questions that guided the study. Chapter Two reviewed the relevant empirical, theoretical, and biblical literature related to pornography addiction, behavioral addiction, cognitive dissonance, spiritual conflict, and Hispanic Christian identity. Chapter Three described the qualitative phenomenological methodology, participant recruitment, data collection procedures, and thematic analysis process used to examine the participants’ experiences. Chapter Four presented the findings that emerged from participant interviews. Major themes included early exposure to pornography, progression from curiosity to habitual use, emotional and spiritual conflict, shame and secrecy, relational distortion, and the desire for repentance and transformation through faith in Jesus Christ. The participants described pornography use as more than a behavioral struggle and emphasized its effects on identity, relationships, emotional well-being, and their spiritual life. Chapter Five discussed the findings in relation to existing empirical, theoretical, and biblical literature and explored the implications for counselors, pastors, ministry leaders, educators, parents, and families. The study highlighted the importance of culturally informed and biblically integrated approaches that address both the behavioral and spiritual dimensions of pornography addiction. Recommendations for future research included longitudinal and intervention-based studies involving diverse populations and faith communities.
