Abstract

The contemporary church is increasingly characterized by the presence of multiple generations worshiping and serving together, each bringing distinct values, communication styles, expectations, and approaches to faith. While this diversity presents significant opportunities for spiritual growth and community development, it can also create challenges that hinder unity, participation, and effective ministry. This study examines the generational gap within the church and explores strategies for enhancing unity and engagement among members from different age groups. Using a qualitative research approach, the study investigates the perceptions, experiences, and interactions of church members across generations. Data were collected through interviews, focus groups, and surveys involving church leaders and congregants representing various age demographics. The research identifies key factors contributing to generational disconnect, including differences in worship preferences, communication methods, leadership expectations, and cultural influences. At the same time, the findings reveal shared spiritual values and common goals that provide a foundation for stronger intergenerational relationships. The study further evaluates existing church practices and proposes practical strategies for fostering meaningful interaction, mutual understanding, and collaborative ministry among generations. These strategies include intentional intergenerational programs, inclusive leadership models, mentoring relationships, and adaptive communication approaches. The findings suggest that churches that intentionally promote intergenerational engagement experience greater congregational unity, increased participation, and enhanced spiritual growth among members. This research contributes to the field of practical theology by offering insights into the dynamics of generational diversity within faith communities and providing recommendations for church leaders seeking to cultivate a more united and engaged congregation. Ultimately, the study concludes that bridging the generational gap is essential for sustaining healthy church communities and fulfilling the church’s mission in a rapidly changing society.
