Abstract

The concept of leadership is viewed from the perspective of the servant. It begins with the understanding that it is natural for Christians to develop the feeling to serve others. It also deals with the conscious choice to develop aspirations to lead as a servant. The servant leader focuses on the growth and overall well-being of the people. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore the practical application of servant leadership among primary school principals in the Clayton County area. The servant leadership model deals with various aspects of culture and social impact in the area of effective leadership. This study provided an understanding on how primary school principals implement servant leadership practices within the school culture. The concept of servant leadership is a principle, a natural law, that allows us to get our social and personal value systems aligned an ennobling system which is designed to enhance a group. It also highlighted the importance of developing ethics in leadership which the knowledge is translated to the people. This ultimately is beneficial to community that may have challenges in motivation. It is important to find the appropriate leadership methods to better serve the educational system in primary schools.
