Abstract
Intergenerational interaction is foundational to the ongoing vitality and long-term sustainability of the church community. Theological perspectives underscore the importance of families and individuals from diverse age groups engaging in mutual sharing, learning, and caring. Such intentional interactions foster intergenerational relationships that not only strengthen the sense of community but also address the spiritual needs of all members, regardless of age. This action research project seeks to help the EUC church become more intergenerational, creating opportunities for members to experience meaningful spiritual growth while forming lasting bonds across generations. Instead of centering church life around a single generation, churches must remain relevant and vibrant by purposefully including and valuing every age group in their activities. Age-segregated worship services, educational programs, and church events should be reimagined to promote inclusivity, shifting away from isolated generational groupings. Although Baby Boomers have traditionally provided stability and leadership in many congregations, true sustainability and flourishing can only be achieved when individuals of every generation are given space to worship, learn, serve, and express their faith together. The research for this project utilized a combination of pre- and post-tests, focus groups, participant surveys, and interviews to assess the impact of intergenerational engagement. A comprehensive eight-week sermon series was implemented as the central teaching tool, offering biblical perspectives and practical guidance to encourage the congregation toward authentic intergenerational connection.
