Abstract
This quantitative, quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the disparities in the leadership, personality traits, and teacher training characteristics of successful public and private secondary band directors in small schools in Alabama. The study focused on identifying perspectives that have not been previously explored or documented. A survey was conducted among band directors at Alabama secondary schools with a daily average enrollment of 300 or fewer students in grades nine through eleven. This information was based on data provided by the Alabama Department of Education and reported by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. The research encompassed dependent variables in leadership, such as transformational leadership, transactional leadership, and passive-avoidant leadership. The survey assessed dependent variables in personality qualities such as self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience. The study also incorporated dependent variables on teacher training, including degrees, professional development, certification, and years of experience.
