Abstract
The researcher aims to uncover the fundamental causes of spiritual stagnation, particularly the tendency to over-rely on established traditions, and to assess the detrimental effects of this phenomenon on the life and activities of the church. Spiritual formation is the process through which Christians are transformed into the likeness of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. Intentionality and growth are paramount for believers, as neglecting these elements can lead to spiritual stagnation. Contemporary literature emphasizes that spiritual formative education is central to fostering intentionality. The correlation between increased knowledge and a heightened desire to learn is crucial; both the desire for compliance and the practice of spiritual disciplines are essential for potential growth. In response to the spiritual stagnation experienced by the focal church in Texas, this thesis project seeks to identify the underlying causes of spiritual deficiencies. This project includes interviewing members, examining church histories, and conversing with former congregants. The research findings seek to propose a comprehensive strategy to revitalize spiritual formation through initiatives centered on Bible-based education and practical application. The proposed initiative, "Jumpstart," is designed to serve as a foundational framework for churches facing spiritual stagnation or proactively addressing potential challenges. It incorporates class sessions, educational materials, follow-up care, and counseling, ensuring a user-friendly interface that encourages participation from all congregants. Recognizing that spiritual formation is vital for every believer, the ultimate objective is for the leadership at SSC to employ the project’s outcomes and establish best practices to reinvigorate their educational systems, enhance learning, emphasize the significance of spiritual growth, and cultivate development through spiritual disciplines.
