Abstract

With an effort to enhance early detection and intervention, this research investigates the urgent need for better skin cancer screening procedures. Developing and evaluating a multicomponent intervention to improve skin cancer screening and increase skin cancer early detection rates in primary care settings was the purpose of this project. In order to assess the use of improved screening procedures for early skin cancer detection in the primary care setting at the Complete Health organization’s Ormond Beach branch, the evidence-based practice study used a quasi-experimental approach. The project focused on the clinical question of whether implementing enhanced screening practicessuch as patient education, provider training, and reminder systems, instead of the current standard screening procedures, can increase the rate of early skin cancer detection in adults who are at high risk for the disease and are seen in primary care settings. Four measurable outcomes were assessed in the study: referral rates, early detection rates, screening rates, and provider adherence to screening guidelines. It sought to put into practice a planned intervention with the goal of raising the percentage of at-risk patient referrals and provider adherence to defined screening guidelines. The results of the project did not show statistically significant differences in early detection or total screening rates; nonetheless, the improvements in provider behavior are clinically meaningful and point to the possibility of better patient outcomes. The practical implications underscore the significance of ongoing education and consistent prompts to healthcare practitioners to sustain elevated levels of adherence. The initiative also emphasizes how important it is to have organizational support and incorporate screening techniques into regular practice in order to maintain sustainability.
