Abstract
Currently, the use of digital health technology has been found to improve patients’ experiences, health outcomes, and quality of care. Furthermore, the Defense Health Agency (DHA) is focused on leveraging cutting-edge technologies to optimize healthcare delivery and improve patient experiences. The purpose of this evidence-based practice process improvement project supports providing educational intervention to nursing staff through videoconferencing or lecture learning opportunities. The project focused on successfully educating nursing staff from at least three MTFs on the use of a patient education platform by the conclusion of the 30-day intervention through individual web-based pre and post questionnaires. Ultimately, 15 registered nurses completed the pre and post questionnaire. Lastly, the data was collected and analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics. Findings demonstrate significantly positive attitudes towards digital technology in general among nursing staff within stateside MTFs. This resulted in registered nurses strongly agreeing with the following items: “Do you feel having knowledge on using digital technology is beneficial in clinical practice” (7 of 11 responses, 64%), “Do you feel you understand digital technology benefits in relation to patient care” (6 of 11 responses, 55%), and “Do you feel you have proficient computer skills to effectively use a digital patient education platform” (6 of 11 responses, 55%). The study will indicate the importance of virtual training on the use of patient education platforms. The findings demonstrate significantly positive attitudes towards using a digital patient education tool among nursing staff within stateside MTFs. Therefore, it is important to promote the value of a digital patient education platform among nursing staff.
