Constitutional Originalism: History, Higher Law and Praxis (2025)
As the United States of America celebrates its 250th anniversary, the Helms School of Government and the Liberty University School of Law honor this major event with a conference focused on Constitutional Originalism: History, Higher Law and Praxis. In this era where constitutional originalism has been gaining momentum, this conference considers several dimensions of it; the history in and around the framing of the Constitution, the broader history of British-American law, the history of precedents, and the case history all play a role. Higher law, the justice that applies to all people, has always fed into law, whether consciously or not. The practice of constitutional law by all 3 branches of government as well as the attorneys and judges in and around government is where the figurative rubber meets the road. Our Constitution, which we celebrate on this 250th Anniversary of our country, has proven durable and practicable. It is the most celebrated and imitated of all constitutions—integral to the flourishing of our republic.
We will be accepting papers focused on any aspect of constitutionalism. Students of all levels and faculty are invited to participate. Papers will be reviewed by Liberty University faculty, with one student and one faculty member being chosen to present at the conference.
Awards are as follows:
- Student Scholarhip: $1,000.
- Faculty Research Grant: $1,000.
