Description

The tank was a top-secret project in World War I and played a key role in helping put the war to an end. Its debut was not perfect as many had doubts on whether it could be a weapon of war in the future like the airplane had cemented itself to be. However, few people like Winston Churchill saw the tank project’s potential and was key to its development. As a result, the steps that it took for the tank to be a symbol of modern warfare that it is today would not have happened the way it needed to if it were not for Winston Churchill. What it took to back this argument was research in primary and secondary sources that found evidence of such involvement that Churchill had in developing the tank. Through the sources in letters and archives show that Churchill saw potential in the tank project, created innovative ideas to push the boundaries of what the tank could do, and finally was given some credit but was largely ignored in developing the tank. While Churchill does not deserve complete credit for the tank coming in fruition, his role in is development is overlooked, or at the very least, overshadowed when compared to the more renowned part of his career.
