Description

Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" films are beloved by Tolkien fans around the world. But do they hold true to Tolkien's original vision for the stories? This presentation aims to discuss the mythopoeic elements in Tolkien's books and the way that the films follow those elements through the only thing that films can have that books cannot: music. Howard Shore's film score for "The Lord of the Rings" carries the movies across the divide created by transferring a story from paper to screen. The score creates a sense of wonder and mythopoeia in the viewers that returns beautifully to Tolkien's original vision.
