Description

The modern world grapples with profound injustices, requiring believers to expend efforts in the development of tools that promote societal transformation. This master’s thesis endeavors to contribute to the fields of advocacy and composition by investigating the integration of storytelling in women’s advocacy efforts. The necessity of women’s advocacy is evident in a review of global data on gender inequity, which demonstrates devastating disparities in areas of economic agency, educational attainment, vocational opportunity, healthcare access, and violence prevention. Vast scholarship demonstrates the power of storytelling in aiding advocacy related work; yet, no existing research provides practical writing strategies for those seeking to lend their writing abilities to women’s issues. This thesis will utilize grounded theory, which enables the composition of theory from data, to formulate strategic writing practices. This methodology entails systematic data collection, coding, and analysis. The project will be organized in five chapters, providing a thorough overview of relevant literature, methodology, results, and discussion. Ultimately, the implementation of grounded theory will yield a compilation of strategic best practices for writers in the field of women’s advocacy. Through an interdisciplinary exploration, this project aims to fill a gap in existing literature, empowering advocates to engage more effectively in equality initiatives for women around the world. In future avenues of research, scholars may further investigate the utilization of narrative activism in diverse cultural contexts and within additional areas of advocacy.
