Description

This presentation serves to showcase the work that 20 students accomplished when tasked with researching, strategizing, and executing a brand identity for a new student-led design agency, hosted under the Studio and Digital Arts Department; the launch of the student-led design agency was made possible through a grant from the Center for Research and Scholarship. Beginning, the team researched the context that the new agency was operating in, noting the few student-led agencies in the country, local professional design agencies, and the prominent agencies globally. Alongside this contextual understanding, the team investigated current design trends, the audiences with which the agency would be interacting, and the educational and professional goals of the agency. With that knowledge in mind, the team developed strategic concepts for the nominal and visual identity of the agency. Upon selecting a concept, the team worked to identify a unique and memorable name that communicated the values and goals of the agency. The name Open Quote Creative was chosen as it signifies the beginning of a conversation, being open to the audiences the agency engages with while remaining accurate to the design-focus of the work. With the research and audience in mind, our teams synthesized our persona into a singular tagline: Where Design Speaks Louder. Executing the brand identity from the research, the team developed a wide array of assets: business collateral, merchandise, environmental graphics, marketing materials, social media graphics and strategy, among other deliverables. These assets were created not for the sake of creation, but from the brief administered at the beginning of the semester and strategized upon through the beginning stages of the project. Open Quote Creative needed a strong identity to support its audiences, goals, and educational mission; in response, the team met and exceeded the brief, offering a solution to the presenting problem.
