Abstract
Presents the experience of a first-time mother related to breastfeeding admitted to a hospital postpartum unit. Reminder that obstetric nurses, midwives, and pediatricians are in a position to empower or sabotage the efforts of new mothers who choose to breastfeed; Comments made by nurses about needing a pacifier or formula milk for the breastfeeding infant.
