Abstract
From Classroom to Conference: Branding the Educator investigates how design methodology and research-based instructional frameworks can support educators in developing cohesive professional identities. As educators are increasingly expected to present, publish, and maintain digital presences, formal preparation in visual communication and professional branding remains limited within teacher preparation and professional development. This thesis addresses that gap through the development of an instructional design solution. Grounded in John Hattie’s Visible Learning framework, adult learning theory, and Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle, the project applies principles of clarity, reflection, feedback, metacognition, and experiential learning to professional identity development. The resulting design solution includes the Educator by Design framework, an interactive branding toolkit, a microlearning video series, AI-supported reflection and branding tools, and a cohesive visual identity campaign. Together, these components provide educators with a scaffolded system for developing authentic professional brands through reflection, visual communication, and design literacy while emphasizing ethical, human-centered branding practices. Through iterative design development, documentation, and faculty critique, this thesis demonstrates how research-informed instructional frameworks can extend beyond classroom pedagogy into professional identity formation. The project contributes a scalable model for educator-focused design literacy centered on clarity, visual coherence, reflective practice, and professional growth.
