Abstract
Spiritual preparation is the ongoing act of engaging faith and life in a way that helps a follower of Jesus become more aware of what God is doing in his or her life. With a developed sense of how God is moving, followers of Jesus are able to engage surprises, both positive and negative, in a grounded way. This grounding is rooted in the knowledge that God is with them and that He has been working from before time and through their lives to get them ready for these moments. A biblical understanding of preparation based on word studies and biblical people’s stories from history provides a foundation to understanding the path of preparation. With this knowledge, a follower of Jesus can spend time with God and with others, as well as release control, in order to better engage the preparatory journey. Intentional spiritual preparation has the potential to impact the trajectory of people’s lives and the way they handle the pressures of the world. This thesis is an invitation to the path of preparation.
