This year’s conference theme is Legacy of Freedom: Then & Now. With this year marking the Helms School of Government’s 20th anniversary, we have chosen a theme which resonates with our legacy and the values which we work to instill in our students. We know that the path towards freedom takes time and that we must protect and affirm the founding principles that made this nation great. These principles ensured that freedom and liberty could spread throughout the world and also enabled those who embrace these principles to acknowledge and move on from the injustices of the past. We live at a time where many of the good things that give meaning to life— family, freedom of speech, the role of the Church, the sanctity of life, and constitutional protection—are all under significant attack. This year’s policy conference welcomes papers dealing with the protection and development of freedom in all policy areas: domestic and international policy as well as public safety and criminal justice. We hope you’ll consider submitting a paper for our conference as well as attending, either in person or online, as we celebrate the Helms School’s legacy of creating scholars and professionals who value and defend our God-given freedom. As we celebrate the Helms School’s 20th anniversary and examine freedom’s importance in a wide variety of contexts, we hope you can join us!
We will be accepting papers in the following general policy areas:
