Abstract

Since January 2021, the U.S. federal government, through the executive branch, started supporting de facto open borders with its stated and unstated policies by illegally and systematically ignoring and not enforcing numerous laws, rules, and regulations regarding the border and immigration enforcement writ large. In the last three years, the open borders have gotten worse, and now many describe the open borders crisis as an invasion. By all appearances, these open borders were intentionally planned, funded, and executed by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the United Nations (UN) through our government. Ironically, the Christian community (including Evangelicals) has been divided on illegal immigration for decades, and there is a significant divide regarding open borders. While the Evangelical laity is very concerned by open borders, Evangelical organizations and leaders seem less so and appear to be AWOL in the current debate—silent on the moral evils perpetuated by the open borders crisis. The numbers associated with the open borders crisis continue to break historical records each year, but there is also almost no enforcement beyond the border with the Immigration, Customs Enforcement (ICE) denuded. One of the most heinous moral evils of open borders is child sex trafficking,--highly correlated with unaccompanied alien children (UACs). The UAC numbers have skyrocketed since 2021 after HHS weakened its requirements for background checks on potential sponsors for UACs. These actions increased the risk of child trafficking significantly, according to HHS whistleblowers, highlighting that some 100,000 UACs were lost or could not be found. The open borders crisis is creating new dynamics that impact the cartels, crime, and drugs, which have dramatically increased the power of Mexican cartels with their new partnership with Chinese gangs. There are significant increases in crime in Mexico and the U.S., and the inflow of drugs—especially fentanyl. “Special interest aliens” are national security threats from China, Russia, Iran, and other terrorist nations. “Special interest aliens” have skyrocketed recently, mostly coming through San Diego County, California—the new epicenter of open borders. A careful examination of the Bible and immigration using hermeneutics and exegesis does not support open borders, sanctuary states, cities and counties, or even illegal immigration. The Bible supports agape to illegal immigrants, but Christians should not promote, enable, or excuse illegal immigration or open borders. The two prominent organizations representing Evangelical churches have had no public statements or resolutions on the open borders crisis or associated moral evils. Has America already passed its fork in the road regarding its decline? If America is to survive and thrive—it must reverse its spiritual and moral decline because the foundations undergird the rule of law. Mere politics will not save America--the foundations (spiritual and moral health) must be revived and strengthened with faith and virtue as two critical parts of the Golden Triangle of Freedom. Some key general recommendations include: 1) The Evangelical Church must be the Church. 2) The Evangelical Church must expose the moral evils of open borders and take action in Christlikeness. 3) The U.S. government (federal, state, and local) must end open borders, restore the rule of law, and return to the border status quo circa December 2020.

The Moral Evils of Open Borders
