Abstract
The purpose of this integrative review is to research, analyze, critique, and synthesize current literature to determine current practice of communication within healthcare. Communication errors continue to have a negative impact on patient outcomes, so this literature review will consider current strategies to improve communication, and thus improve patient outcomes. Several themes were identified as strategies to improve communication. Although there is abundant research on the topic of communication in healthcare, there is still a need for further adoption and implementation of various communication strategies, as well as a need for further evaluation to determine if these strategies do improve communication to decrease negative patient outcomes.
