Description
Sciatic nerve high division (SNHD) is an anatomical variation in which the sciatic nerve separates into its two branches higher than expected, often near or above the piriformis muscle. In this cadaveric study, 56 limbs were dissected, revealing a 30.4% prevalence of SNHD, significantly higher than reported in existing literature. These findings suggest that SNHD may be more common than recognized and propose potential embryological and genetic factors contributing to its development. Given its implications for surgical procedures, nerve blocks, and diagnostic accuracy, increased awareness of SNHD is critical for improving patient outcomes.
