Description
Water is essential for both spiritual and physical well-being. Just as Jesus offers us living water for spiritual growth, clean drinking water is necessary for physical health, survival, and human flourishing. From a scientific perspective, human bodies begin to show signs of dehydration and fatigue after just three days without water, with this scarcity ultimately leading to life-threatening conditions. This truth highlights the crucial role of water in sustaining human life. However, many developing nations do not have access to clean drinking water. One of these nations is the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Congo holds over half of Africa’s freshwater reserves. Yet, three-quarters of its population does not have access to clean drinking water. This is a serious problem that threatens many lives in DRC. The central question of this research is whether it is possible to overcome this challenge. Specifically, why do three-quarters of the Congolese population lack access to clean drinking water? Furthermore, what strategies or interventions can be implemented to ensure access to clean drinking water for the three-quarters of the Congolese population in need? This qualitative research aims to assess the clean water crisis in the DRC and propose a sustainable mechanism to address it. In the process, efforts that have been made to address drinking water issues in DRC will be explored and explained, and personal experience in dealing with lack of clean drinking water in rural villages in DRC will be included. By evaluating these efforts and experiences, the study seeks to develop a practical approach for improving water accessibility and ultimately safeguarding the health and well-being of the Congolese people.
