Social Good Campaign: Speak Up Against Assisted Suicide
Undergraduate
Description
This Social Good Campaign addresses the controversial topic of physician assisted suicide (PAS). In countries, like the Netherlands, PAS was legalized in 2002 and is already being abused as flocks come to the country to participate in “suicide tourism” and people as young as 12 being eligible for the practice. What has become a slippery slope overseas, has now made its way into the United States. Many states have passed, or are seeking to pass within 2023, laws that permit physician assisted suicide. The Right to Die movement has popularized the practice, making it appealing to many who struggle, themselves, with a terminal illness or love someone who does. Through the research my team and I have conducted, we are confident that physician assisted suicide is too risky of a practice is implement in the states. It has moral, economic, and legal issues surrounding it on all sides. Our social campaign exists to inform and call to action New York residents, encouraging them to reach out to their Senators and advocate against the passing of the Medical Aid in Dying Bill. It is our hope to inspire other states to see the value in this method of advocacy and utilize it within their own communities as well.
