Abstract
Throughout church history, Scripture has been under attack, particularly the Old Testament, and questions pertaining to the authority and relevance of the Old Testament have risen since the coming of Christ. In Jesus’ earthly ministry, not only does He adhere to Scripture perfectly, He also demonstrates consistent teaching from Scripture. Jesus viewed Scripture, in its entirety, as the authority for those who follow Him. An exegetical study of Matthew 5:17-20 reveals Jesus’ view of Scripture, as well as Jesus issuing a warning for anyone who invalidates any part of Scripture and teaches others to do the same. Anyone who places their faith in Christ must follow and obey Him. The purpose of this exegetical study is to demonstrate that if Christians are to follow and obey Jesus, they must learn to follow His view of Scripture, rightly handle Scripture, and correctly teach others to do the same.
