Abstract
The Holy Spirit’s role in illumination has been misunderstood, resulting in various false beliefs. In order to clear up these misunderstandings, three-key text are examined. John 16:12-15, 1 Corinthians 2, and 1 John 5:6 all have much to say regarding illumination by the Holy Spirit. Doing a detailed exegesis of each will provide the foundation for a much fuller understanding of the Holy Spirit’s involvement in the illumination of those God has predestined (Rom 8:30). This will culminate with the tackling of the misunderstandings using the three-key text. It is the hope that this exploration into what Scripture has to say regarding illumination will result in one seeing the Holy Spirit’s role in hermeneutics as illuminating those God has chosen, allowing them to understand the truth of Scripture.
