Spiritual Attitudes and Values in Young Children
Jerry Falwell Library, Terrace Conference Room A
Minimal research exists regarding the measurement of spiritual values and attitudes in young children. The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) developed the Attitudes and Values Questionnaire (AVQ) with dimensions of Conscience, Compassion, Social Growth, Emotional Growth, Service to Others, Commitment to God, and Commitment to Jesus. Following permission from ACER to adapt the AVQ for younger children, teachers agreed to administer the AVQ. Schools, religious institutions, and childcare centers are being invited to read the items to the children. The intention is to expand upon knowledge about young children’s attitudes and values related to spirituality.
